Academic Pentathlon

Our Changing Climate

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

In recent years, Beyond the Bell decided to expand Decathlon and coordinate the LAUSD middle school version of the competition, Academic Pentathlon.  The LAUSD teams are representative of their schools and communities. According to the competition guidelines, teams are comprised on students with varying grade point averages. Additionally, the students represent the gender, socioeconomic, and ethnic makeup of their individual schools.

Each year about 20-30 teams, composed of 9 Official Team Pentathletes and multiple Junior Varsity students from schools across the district, commit to studying and preparing for the regional competition that take place in March and April. Students compete in the LAUSD Regional competition and participate in the Pentathlon Awards Ceremony in April. Winning teams from Regional competition are invited to participate in the National competition.
