Music Festivals

Mariachi Festival
The Mariachi Festival is designed to bring Mexico’s rich and artistic music to the students and teachers of LAUSD. Secondary music ensembles are invited to showcase their repertoire of música to the Los Angeles community in what is a celebration of education and artistry for the audience and performers alike. The culmination of these workshops is the combined student mariachis closing out the Invitational by performing the workshop music for all to enjoy.

Jazz, Blues and Beyond Festival
The Jazz, Blues and Beyond Festival showcases the synergy of student achievement through improvisational performance. Held in April to celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day, students perform a 30-minute set list that is immediately followed by a clinic presented by one of the festival’s adjudicators. The adjudicators are jazz professionals and educators, all of whom possess the unique and quality insight needed to nurture future musicians to higher skill levels. The festival also features performances by students in the Beyond the Bell Jazz Academy.

Percussion Showcase
The Percussion Showcase festival displays LAUSD percussion ensembles be it competitive or exhibition. The showcase consists of both crowd-pleasing performances as well as competitive movement-based shows. A percussion workshop clinic is conducted by the adjudicators to speak to the power of percussion performance. These clinics unify our young musicians by allowing them to perform with a large ensemble.
